Apeiron<\/em> is a word that comes from Ancient Greek and means [that which is] unlimited, infinite, inexhaustible, or indefinite. It is composed of a-<\/em> (without) and peirar<\/em> (end, limit, or boundary), and bears resemblance to the Persian word piramon<\/em> (\u067e\u06cc\u0631\u0627\u0645\u0648\u0646), meaning limit, circumference, or surrounding. The first use of the term is attributed to Anaximander, the Greek philosopher and geographer, who defined it as \u201cthe origin of the universe\u201d: an unlimited and indefinite origin capable of creating without generating decay, timelessly\u2014a constant movement without beginning or end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A spore is an adaptive and reproductive unit of dispersal that can remain dormant for hundreds of years until it encounters favourable conditions for reproduction. Fungi, which we know as mushrooms, are the fruiting bodies of a larger organism called mycelium, which grows underground, in darkness, for reproductive purposes. The fungal kingdom is remarkable for concealing more than it reveals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finding a mushroom implies an encounter between chance and biological determination. Its appearance, as well as its discovery, are circumstances that are at once possible and unpredictable. In the sporographies that make up Apeiron<\/em>, volume becomes surface and the billions of spores released by each mushroom are fixed in place, transforming the ephemeral into the permanent.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n
